The Agility Club of Western AustraliaThis club started up in November 2002 as the only Dog club in Western Australia dedicated purely to the rapidly growing sport of Agility – recognised as one of the fastest growing dog performance sports in the world. Started up by long time agility and obedience competitors Mel Rhoden and his wife Maureen, Mel sought to gather like minded agility competitors together in order to form a club that would provide opportunities for teaching and training that would help the agility community keep up with the rapidly changing progressions the sport was and is currently still experiencing. Supported by several agility die-hards, competitors who have been involved in the sport long term, Mel worked with the close-knit committee to provide instruction to all levels and as equipment manager he continues to work hard to build equipment to meet the demands of his instructors and their students. Training on Tuesday evenings at the Canine Association of WA grounds, the club has built up a strong clientele and they experience successes at every trial they go to. ACWA is a progressive agility training club that takes pride in having available training methods that are innovative, modern, positive with an emphasis on the relationship that handler and dog build to become the best that they can be.
